Titanium machining — aerospace structural & medical implant-grade.
Ti-6Al-4V (Grade 5) and CP titanium. Aerospace structural, medical implant-grade. Tight thermal control and chip evacuation for clean finishes. AS9100D + ITAR.
Strength of steel, half the weight, biocompatible.
Titanium has the strength-to-weight ratio aerospace needs and the biocompatibility medical needs. The machining cost is real — titanium chips are reactive and tooling wears fast — but for parts where weight or implant compatibility matters, no other material wins.
Ti-6Al-4V (Grade 5)
The workhorse aerospace grade. Excellent strength-to-weight. Common for structural brackets, frames, engine components. ASTM F1472 implant-grade variant for medical.
CP titanium (Grades 1–4)
Commercially pure titanium. Lower strength than Grade 5 but better corrosion resistance and weldability. Common for medical implants, chemical processing.
Machining strategy
Sharp tooling, light cuts, high-pressure coolant. Chip evacuation is critical — titanium chips ignite if they re-cut at speed. Program reviews catch this before the machine sees the file.
